What is PFAS?

PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) is a large and complex group of +10,000 identified substances that hold the ability to repel water and grease as well as withstand high temperatures. Although PFAS is widely used in anything from raincoats to frying pans and firefighting foam; it’s been uncovered as a “forever chemical” that can contaminate soil and water.

PFAS in food packaging

PFAS is widely used for food packaging, and chances are you’ve both used and consumed food from them. Furthermore, PFAS has been an industry standard for bagasse products due to its ability to prevent oil and grease from leaking through food packaging.
